Everyone knows about it, and more people than you would believe probably have them. The question is why do people go to such an extent to pay for a fake purse that is cheaply made. People are desperate to be associated with something that can make them appear higher class than they really are. It’s in our nature to be viewed in society as successful, it can almost be seen as going back to survival of the fittest. As this article suggests, successful marketing and the desire to appear as though you can afford a higher lifestyle than which is truth is one of the main reasons the underground market is so prominent today. Whether you are a high school drama queen who wants to rep the "it" item or a blue collared worker who wants people to believe she is more successful than in reality, the knock offs are a status symbol that many carry with hopes of being perceived in a different light.
